The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van is a light-weight commercial vehicle built to haul heavy equipment, carry construction tools, or deliver goods. More recently, the Sprinter Van is becoming an increasingly popular vehicle choice for a luxury campervan conversion. The Sprinter Van is being custom renovated with all your basic amenities to allow for extended camping trips off the grid.

With all the amazing features this van has, it was always designed to be a work van, and as such sound deadening and a pleasant noise free drive was never thought about. As a result, many people who have converted the vans into campers complain about the loud noise that they hear while driving down the road (road noise, engine noise and vibrations in the cabin are the main complaints).
Adding sound deadening is the most effective way to make a Sprinter quieter, more comfortable, and better suited for both work and adventure.
Why Sprinter Vans Are Noisy
The Sprinter’s large body and diesel powertrain make it particularly prone to cabin noise:
- Large metal panels in the cargo area resonate and amplify road vibration.
- Diesel engine rumble and heat enter through the firewall and floor.
- Wind noise builds at highway speeds due to the van’s tall profile.
- Cargo space echo makes sound bounce around the cabin.
Without sound deadening, the Sprinter can feel more like a work truck than a comfortable travel or transit van.
How to Soundproof your Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van?
First, you will need to remove interior of your Sprinter Van, including the seats and carpet. B-Quiet Extreme Sound Deadener is then applied to the floor, walls, roof, door panels and any metal surfaces that might vibrate. Most vehicle owners will also choose to apply Extreme to the wheel wells for additional insulation.
Extreme is easy to apply with a peel and stick sound dampening material that can be applied directly onto all metal surfaces.
Installing B-Quiet Extreme Sound Deadener
The surface you are applying B-Quiet Extreme to must be clean and dry free of dust, moisture, grease, and other contaminants.
Step by Step Instructions
- Prep & Clean
Remove trim, carpet, or panels as needed.
Wipe metal with a degreaser or isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely.
- Measure & Cut
Measure the area and cut B-Quiet Extreme with scissors or a utility knife.
Pieces around 1 sq ft are easiest to handle and speed up installation.
Avoid cutting pieces too small.
- Temperature
Apply at or above room temperature for a strong bond.
Heating with a hair dryer/heat gun is not required (use only to help on tight curves or in cold conditions).
- Peel & Apply
Peel the paper backing.
Lay the sheet down inch by inch, starting at one edge and working across.
Press firmly to seat the butyl against the metal.
- Roll for Adhesion
Use an application roller to push the material into panel contours.
Work from the center outward to remove air pockets and ensure full contact.
- Trim Openings
Mark and cut out any clip holes, screw holes, drains, and wiring access so reassembly is easy and water can escape (doors).
- Reassemble
Refit carpet, headliner, and panels once all treated surfaces are firmly bonded.
Tips
- Treat large, flat panels first (floor, cargo area, doors) for the biggest gain.
- Overlap seams slightly; avoid stacking multiple layers unless targeting hot spots.
- Wear gloves; butyl is tacky and bonds quickly.
Tools you’ll need: application roller, scissors or utility knife, tape measure/marker, cleaning rags with alcohol/degreaser, gloves.

Comfort Upgrades for Vanlife Travelers
For those converting a Sprinter into a camper van, sound deadening goes beyond reducing noise, it makes the van feel like home. By treating the interior with Extreme and VComp, you can:
- Enjoy quieter drives, with less road and wind noise on highways.
- Sleep better by blocking outside noise at campgrounds or rest stops.
- Stay cooler in summer, with less heat coming from the firewall and floor.
- Improve music and entertainment systems, since sound deadening enhances acoustics.
- Create a calmer, more comfortable living space for long term travel.
These upgrades turn a hardworking van into a true mobile home.
Final Thoughts
Whether you use your Sprinter van for commercial work or as a camper van conversion, sound deadening is a worthwhile upgrade. Reducing road noise, vibration, and heat creates a more enjoyable driving experience, improves sleep during travel, and helps preserve the interior.
